![]() We can all benefit from being out in nature and exploring, but our kids need it the most. "Children will be smarter, better able to get along with others, healthier and happier when they have regular opportunities for free and unstructured play in the out-of-doors," concluded one authoritative study published by the American Medical Association in 2005. Statistics show kids are getting outside much less then they used. Today, 21% of kids regularly play outside, compared to 71% of their parents. "We aim for children to experience true free play," says Kristen Lambert, who runs the scheme's PlayRanger service. "Play that's not set up according to an adult agenda – in forests and open spaces, not designated play areas. There are no specific activities, no fixed equipment; there are tree branches and muddy slopes. The spaces themselves are inspiring. Children set their own challenges, assess their own risks, take their own responsibility, have their own adventures, and learn from them. And what they learn can't be taught. You should see them." I would like to thank Heidi and staff for a memorable and fulfilling experience. My issues with chronic back and neck pain have changed tremendously since I started with treatment. The pain is all but gone and I can function much easier. I highly recommend Heidi and JADE WELLNESS for pain management and related treatments.

I could not agree more! I am very grateful my boys were born just before phones became what they are today. I feel the best way to combat the technology pull we all struggle with is to start them being outside as much as possible when they are young. As was stated, "Play that is not set up according to an adult agenda is best." Wonderful news for the overwhelmed parent. This is not yet another thing you need to plan! Kids don't need much to be inspired in play. And even if they roll their eyes when they get older as you are dragging them on another hike - know that it does make a huge difference in who they become as they grow in to adults. Nothing can compare to energy of nature and what it does to our coherence when we spend time in it. Thank you for the thoughtful article!
